Joanne is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board. She is a member of the Academy of Certified Social workers through NASW and has been licensed/certified in North Carolina, Ohio and New York. She is also a Certified Clinical Supervisor through NASW-NC for PLCSW licensure.
Joanne received an M. Ed degree in Special Education/Counseling from the American International College, Springfield, MA and an MSW degree from the State University of New York, Albany, N.Y. She has been a practicing psychotherapist for over 25 years.

She is a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, EMDR International Association, National Association of Social Workers and the American Association of Christian Counselors. She serves on the Pitt Resource Connection Board of directors and is a Board member of the End of Life Care Coalition of Eastern Carolina.

Joanne worked in Medical Care Management for eight years with Community Care of North Carolina. During this time, she completed a fellowship in Diabetes management through the Brody School of Medicine and a program on the Integration of Behavioral health and Primary medical care through the Case Management Society of America. Joanne is a Certified Instructor for Respecting Choices, an internationally recognized Health Care Advance Care Planning program developed by Gundersen Lutheran Health System, LaCrosse, WI.

Joanne has participated on community crisis response teams in Ohio and North Carolina. She is trained through the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) to provide community crisis response. Additionally, she is an EMDR Clinician and is completing specialized training in the clinical treatment of PTSD and Trauma.  Joanne works with several Veterans programs and contracts with organizations to provide treatment for work-site related trauma.  She also provides individualized treatment for issues of chronic and life-limiting illness, grief and loss, abuse and issues of performance in daily life.

Joanne’s approach to psychotherapy is as individualized as the person.  However, she draws on Ecological systems, Cognitive Behavioral, Transactional Analysis, Redecision, Social learning theory and EMDR to guide and design collaborative treatment with the individual.
